NBA Draft Recall—NorthWest DivisionPosted: March 5, 2011
The following story is not real:
Uh-oh! David Stern just announced that all current players have to be returned to the teams that drafted them. As everybody scrambles for the next flight to meet their new/old team, let’s see just how good each team would be. As long as the player has played a game this season, he is on the roster for the team that drafted him, even if he’s a free agent right now.
Today is the NorthWest Division.
These are the teams in the division:
This may have just become the weakest division in a matters of days. The Central Division is pretty weak though. So the NorthWest is weak. The Nuggets lost Carmelo Anthony and the Jazz lost Deron Williams. The Blazers are crippled although they did snag Gerald Wallace at the trade deadline. Thunder are the best team right now. Wolves…um…Kevin Love…
Let’s look at the rosters with the new/old players from draft night.
Jazz: Nazr Mohammed, Andrei Kirilenko, DeShawn Stevenson, Jarron Collins, Mo Williams, Sasha Pavlovic, Kris Humphries, C.J. Miles, Deron Williams, Paul Millsap, Ronnie Brewer, Kosta Koufos, Eric Maynor, Jeremy Evans, and Gordon Hayward.
Nuggets: Tony Battie, Francisco Elson, James Posey, Carmelo Anthony, Jameer Nelson, Jarrett Jack, and Leon Powe.
Timberwolves: Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Craig Smith, Corey Brewer, Mario Chalmers, Nikola Pekovic, Brandon Roy, O.J. Mayo, Wayne Ellington, Ty Lawson, Jonny Flynn, Hamady Ndaiye, Trevor Booker, Luke Babbitt, and Wesley Johnson.
Thunder: Rashard Lewis, Corey Maggette, Bobby Simmons, Vladimir Radmanovic, Earl Watson, Willie Green, Luke Ridnour, Nick Collison, Johan Petro, Glen Davis, Carl Landry, Kevin Durant, Serge Ibaka, Russell Westbrook, Rodrigue Beaubois, James Harden, Quincy Pondexter, and Craig Brackins.
Blazers: Jermaine O’Neal, Zach Randolph, Travis Outlaw, Sebastian Telfair, Linas Kleiza, Martell Webster, Tyrus Thomas, Josh McRoberts, Greg Oden, Omer Asik, Joey Dorsey, Brandon Rush, Patrick Mills, Jon Brockman, and Dante Cunningham.
The Nuggets don’t have many players. In fact, they’ve had three drafts in a row of no selections. Timberwolves probably the best team out of this group. Obviously, the Thunder are a good-looking bunch of players. Blazers aren’t going to make much noise. Nuggets actually have Anthony and Nelson. Maybe Posey is still a force but there’s just not enough depth.
Now that I look at it longer, the Wolves are better but the Thunder have more potential. In about 2-3 years, this gang will be the best in the NBA. Is this division weaker than Pacific? Nope. I think there’s more skill here than Pacific. As for the other divisions, well…we’ll see.
Next time we’ll look at the Southwest Division. In case you missed it, here’s the Pacific Division
